A new series of concerts for those who might not yet be rushing to a gig.

Since COVID-19 made its way to Australia, many industries have been hit hard. Businesses were forced to close down; events and tours were cancelled, and large gatherings were restricted. An absolute nightmare for avid festivalgoers and performers in the music industry.

One of the greatest things to come out of quarantine and restrictions forced upon the industry is rise in live-streaming gigs, an easy and effective way for artists to share some musical joy, keep their skills in check and allows fans to witness the magic from all corners of the globe.

While gigs have finally made a return to live music venues across the country, The Uncontainer is here for those who aren’t just ready to hit the town yet (or who have just fallen in love with watching music from the couch), continuing to bring concerts, performances, interviews and more straight to your fingertips.

A live-streamed concert series and music discovery channel, The Uncontainer is the latest from the team at Harmonic Whale, whose relentless work in 2020 and 2021 supported over 900 musicians to put on 120+ shows through all the stages of the pandemic.

Dedicated to featuring the finest Melbourne contemporary musicians, The Uncontainer will bring the most diverse and fabulous lineup of artists, partnering with industry organisations and music programmers across styles, genres and locations all over Melbourne and Regional Victoria.

Kicking off in November, the first Uncontainer shows will feature Folktronic act AMARU TRIBE (November 17) and Philly (November 24), presented in partnership with Footscray Community Arts and Songlines Aboriginal Music Corporation.

Alongside delivering some fine music straight into people’s homes, The Uncontainer is building on the new horizons and beautiful possibilities live steaming allow – people with access limitations still able to enjoy live music, venues no longer limited by their physical capacity, local shows available to international audiences at the touch of a button.

The series also tackles the notion that online isn’t necessarily free. The Uncontainer’s shows will be ticketed to ensure that the value of the artists and the techs involved is recognised.

The Uncontainer’s YouTube channel will also serve to showcase of Melbourne talent with worldwide projection, leveraging the Whale’s and all the partner organisations’ local and international networks.
