Critically acclaimed TV series The Sopranos is set for a big screen treatment, with creator David Chase confirming he has written a screenplay. New Line has purchased the screenplay, with a working title of The Many Saints of Newark.
The film is centred around the Newark riots of the ’60s, a time in which African-Americans and Italians of Newark were lethal adversaries.
Characters from The Sopranos will appear in the film, played by both new actors and through flashback sequences.
“David is a masterful storyteller and we, along with our colleagues at HBO, are thrilled that he has decided to revisit, and enlarge, the Soprano universe in a feature film,” said Waner Bros Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich.
Chase will act as producer, co-writer, and will be involved in selecting a director.
