The film’s score will be captured on vinyl across three separate versions.
For the very first time, the score to Studio Ghibli’s 1997 environmental classic Princess Mononoke will be released on vinyl. Written by legendary composer Joe Hisaishi, the film’s aural backdrop will be released in three parts this July.
Princess Mononoke (Symphonic Suite) will comprise recordings with the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra which occurred a year after the film was released while Princess Mononoke (Soundtrack) features new recordings with the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra. Marking a sonic trifecta, Princess Mononoke (Image Album) is a collection of recordings pre-dating the soundtrack, based on notes from the film’s writer and director, Hayao Miyazaki.
The films of Studio Ghibli are loved just as much for their sonic palette as for their rich, vivid animations and heart-swelling storylines. Truly encapsulating the Princess Mononoke world across three special LPs, these first-pressings will make for very desirable collector’s items.
All three albums are due for release on July 24.
