To celebrate Joel, Singa and Liam’s 13-year tenure of running The Old Bar.

Three years ago, The Old Bar celebrated ‘A Decade of Dickhead’ with a week-long festival. The extravaganza would celebrate the tenth anniversary of Joel Morrison, Singa Unlayati and Liam Mathews’ ownership of the venue.

“A Decade of Dickhead. And just to make it clear, we’re the dickheads,” Morrison told Beat Magazine at the time. That pretty much sums up this approachable, hallowed venue – one that’s overseen by three self-confessed goofballs, each of whom are legends of the game and marked experts in their field.

As part of the extravaganza, the venue welcomed over 30 of the biggest local bands at the time to perform in its bandroom. If you went along to any of these special gigs you would have seen the likes of Gold Class, Batpiss, Clowns, Cash Savage & The Last Drinks, Fraser A. Gorman and many more, tear up the beloved space.

The trio have now reached 13 years of operating The Old Bar and while things look a whole lot different in 2020, the significance and importance of The Old Bar hasn’t changed. It’s still one of Melbourne’s premier venues and one that’s feeling the same pinch as every other live music hub around town.

So what have they got in store for the big occasion? Well, Joel, Singa and Liam will be throwing a Zoom party to reminisce about some of the venue’s most memorable moments. They will also be joined by Nick Finch who has worked at the venue for 12 years, and is also a member of Cash Savage & The Last Drinks himself.

Going down on Friday August 21 from 8.30pm, punters will be able to jump on Zoom and join in on the fun, remembering their own Old Bar shenanigans, while chatting with the four brainchilds behind the joint.

The boys are encouraging anyone and everyone to get involved: “Feel free to chime in with a question or memory and help us create three and a half hours of wasted time,” they said in a statement. Sounds like the banter will be flying.

Tickets to the Zoom party range from $5 to $10, $20 and $50, with all funds going towards helping The Oldie get through this weird time.
