With live beats, smokey barbecue and cold beer, it's the perfect way to welcome the warm weather.

The National Hotel, one of Richmond’s mainstay pubs, is having a party to celebrate something all Melburnians can get behind: kissing winter goodbye.

On Saturday, August 31, technically the last day of winter in Melbourne, they’ll be hosting Brighter Days, filling the beer garden with music, laughs and chatter.

Brighter Days

  • Saturday, August 31 from 1pm to 7pm
  • The National Hotel, 344 Victoria St, Richmond
  • Entry is free

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

Running from 1pm to 1pm, the backyard party style event is the perfect way to spend a lazy Saturday afternoon. They’ll have live music, a spit roast barbecue for a fresh-off-the-grill feed and heaters if the weather’s still a little chilly.

What’s more, they’re bringing in limited-edition drinks for the occasion, including samples from Bright Brewing, Napoleon Cier, Stomping Ground, Skrewball and Jameson. There will be no shortage of drinks available, so bring your mates and come thirsty.

Acoustic cover band Cold Schnitzel will be performing Aussie pub bangers – Paul Kelly, Elvis Presley, John Denver and more – keeping the energy high and the tunes bumping.

Beloved for its delicious food menu packed with pan-Asian offerings and pub classics as well as its expertly mixed cocktails, prime location on Victoria St and live sports on screen, The National is your local bar, but better.

With daily meal deals, a recurring Taskmaster night, trivia, Happy Hour and the standard Sunday roast, it’s got everything you could dream of in a pub. Really, there’s no excuse not to rug up, come on down and party in the name of brighter days ahead.

Brighter Days is free, but bookings are highly recommended. To secure a table and find out more information, head to The National Hotel’s website.
