A highlight of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s 2017 program, West Side Story will come to life projected on a large movie screen with the orchestra performing Leonard Bernstein’s seminal score in real time.

The newly re-mastered film will be screened in high definition, with original vocals and dialogue intact. The well-loved romance and tragedy – based on Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet – is a classic of 20th-century stage and screen, featuring choreography from Robert Wise and lyrics from the incomparable Stephen Sondheim.

A standout event on the MSO’s upcoming program, the Orchestra’s 2018 season will feature a wider celebration of Leonard Bernstein – performing some of his greatest works live – as well as three gala performances shining a light on some of the greatest superstars of classical music.

Further highlights include collaborations with musical comedy act Tripod, Melbourne’s own Circus Oz interpreting the works of Roald Dahl in Dahlesque, and the continuation of the Harry Potter live in concert series.
