The festival has maintained its community roots while expanding its musical offerings to include bluegrass, Irish, gospel, country, bush and folk music. More than 30 workshops will run throughout the township, catering to all skill levels from complete beginners to accomplished musicians.
A festival organiser emphasized their commitment to accessibility, noting that tutors and bands continue to volunteer their time, making it Victoria’s most affordable acoustic music event. The festival even provides free instrument loans through their sponsor program.
The event has sparked ongoing community initiatives, including Jigarre Jammin, a monthly music session drawing up to 70 musicians to the township. Several new bands have emerged from these gatherings, now performing throughout northern and central Victoria.
The 2025 program includes multiple free concerts, beginning with Friday evening performances featuring invited guests and Out-of-a-Hat Band winners. Saturday evening presents a varied musical lineup, while Sunday incorporates performances at the Farmers Market and a gospel session, concluding with a wind-down concert.
Catering options include:
- Friday: Traditional sausage sizzle
- Saturday: Two-course dinner (advance booking required)
- Sunday: Farmers Market offerings
- BYO alcohol permitted
The festival’s impact extends beyond the annual gathering. It has fostered a vibrant music scene in what was once a drought-affected community, encouraging thousands of beginners to take up instruments and providing performance opportunities for emerging musicians and songwriters.
Support from local businesses, including Rushworth & District Community Bank, Guitars Plus, Ky West Hotel, and Kyabram Motor Inn, helps maintain the festival’s accessible pricing and community focus.
Camping bookings and dinner reservations can be made through the festival’s Facebook page or website. Previous attendees have documented their experiences on the Girgarre Moosic Muster Facebook page, highlighting the event’s welcoming atmosphere and diverse musical offerings.
