This December, The Espy’s iconic Gershwin Bandroom celebrates its 100th anniversary, marking a century of unforgettable live music, cultural milestones, and electrifying performances.

Known for its intimate atmosphere and rich history, the Gershwin Room has been a stage for both rising stars and legendary acts, becoming a cornerstone of Melbourne’s live music scene.

The celebration kicks off with a stellar line-up of performances designed to honour its legacy. Punk rock pioneers Cosmic Psychos will bring their signature raw energy on Sunday, December 8, followed by the chart-topping alternative rockers Eskimo Joe on Friday, December 13. Indie rock icons Augie March will close out the main event series on Saturday, December 21, with additional acts to be announced soon.

The Cosmic Psychos, who have been influential in shaping the Seattle grunge movement, bring decades of fuzzed-out basslines and raucous performances.

Eskimo Joe, formed in Fremantle, rose to fame with their polished alternative rock hits, such as Sweater and Black Fingernails, Red Wine. Augie March, known for their soulful melodies and avant-garde flair, represent the eclectic spirit of the Gershwin Room itself.

Hotel Esplanade, affectionately known as The Espy, has been a cultural hub for over 144 years, and the Gershwin Room sits at its heart. Over the decades, it has been home to countless memories – lively gigs, pre-show drinks in the public bar and seaside celebrations.

The venue’s walls have seen it all, from budding romances to groundbreaking performances, becoming a sanctuary for Melbourne’s artistic community.

Hotel Esplanade’s current custodians uphold the sentiment passed down from past owners: “As much as you’ve bought The Espy, you’ll never really own it.” This celebration honours that spirit, inviting music lovers to relive the golden days of live performances and create new memories in this beloved space.
