The days of horse-drawn carriages in Melbourne’s CBD are over

After tireless efforts from animal rights activists and campaigners, it looks as if horse-drawn carriages will be phased out of Melbourne’s CBD.

From Friday June 30, Melbourne City Council will cease issuing permits to horse-drawn carriages operating in the CBD.

Consequently, the carriages will be confined to St Kilda Road and throughout the Botanic Gardens.

Lord Mayer Robert Doyle declared the changes on 3AW, citing Swanston Street as a “dangerous” place for horses.

As we all know, horses belong only in Australian pop bangers. Not being forced to clop around city streets. In the word’s of the big man himself, “that’s the way it’s gonna be, little darling”.
