The rhythmic intricacies and improvising practices that reside at the core of both the South Indian Carnatic and Western jazz tradition are revealed in virtuosic splendour. Rich in power, beauty and originality, The Chennai Tapes is new music for South Indian and Western instruments built on the solid foundation of the Carnatic tradition, and it’s coming our way next month! There’s nothing like a bit of culture to raise excitement levels. The Chennai Tapes celebrates more than a decade of collaboration between the Australian Art Orchestra (AAO), Guru Kaaraikkudi Mani and his Sruthi Laya Ensemble – these original works built on the South Indian Carnatic tradition premiered in India in 2008.
