The Chats take on Metallica to raise money for North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency

The Chats

Sunshine Coast shed rockers The Chats have released a blistering cover of Metallica's 'Holier Than Thou' on a new 53-track charity tribute album.

The Chats join contemporary popular music luminaries like Miley Cyrus, St. Vincent, Rina Sawayama, IDLES, Phoebe Bridgers and Biffy Clyro on the sprawling tribute album.

All profits from The Chats’ cover version will go to Metallica’s All Within My Hands Foundation and the North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency.

Holier Than Thou, off Metallica’s 1991 Enter Sandman album, originally directed James Hetfield’s anger at the music industry, who later called it one of Metallica’s “sillier songs”.

Clocking in at just under two and a half minutes, The Chats’ Eamon Sandwith manages to suppress most of his nasal twang in his best Hetfield impersonation, however the guitar riffs remain reminiscent of the Aussie band.

The Chats are currently on a regional tour of Australia with Melbourne dates likely to be cancelled, before they’re due to ship out to Europe in March next year for a continental tour.
