Running alongside the Bergy Seltzer proper - that beloved hole-in-the-wall Brunswick local - the Bergy Bandroom has kicked the Sydney Road gig scene into high gear.

And what better time to catch a gig than December! From huge psych-rock bills to the best in the local emo scene, the Bergys have the cure to what ails ya.

Dec 1 – Propaine with Twine, Doris and Keratin

Propaine are a four-piece post-emo outfit from Melbourne – they’re so Naarm they met slinging beers at The Gaso – and their sound, which incorporates elements of post-punk and indie rock, has drawn rave reviews and seen them support the fancied likes of Gut Health.

With time-honoured influences like My Chemical Romance, they dropped their first EP The First Part last year and have backed it up with three superb singles so far in 2023. They’ll be ending the year on a high at the Bergy with help from Twine, Doris and Keratin.

Dec 2 – Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice’s end of year buzz with Ouzo and Revv

Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice have carved out their own unique space in Melbourne’s underground music scene, with sounds that hark back to the days when synthesisers were considered alien enterprises in the music context – a time where bands like Kraftwerk twisted, then rewired brains with their otherworldly music creations and innovations.

Dr Sure’s craft music that’s fresh and inspired; new wave-punk that isn’t being done by many bands in Melbourne, especially now that U-Bahn are no longer together. Catch them with local legends Ouzo and Revv on December 2 and see what all the fuss is about.

Dec 9 – Purée (SA) – The Silverwood Tour with Travalley and Ramona Sky

With an energetic, dynamic sound inspired by elements of indie rock and jangle pop music – the chameleon-like qualities of Adelaide’s Purée guarantee they have a song and sound for everyone.

Whilst still creating music with individual flavour, their music builds an energy that encourages people to feel deeply, whilst emphasising the appreciation for the simplicities of existing. These values are greatly brought to life through their gripping live performances, leaving those in the audience with a reborn sense of excitement that carries a lasting impression.

Dec 15 – Feverdreams’ ’22 Below’ Single Launch with Eastbound Buzz and The Jives

Comprised of Adam, Matt, Liam and Cassandra, FEVERDREAMS is an energetic and exciting rock quartet who love performing on stages around Melbourne. Following the release of their 2021 debut EP ‘When The Smoke Clears’, the group have released a batch of singles across 2023, blending their guitar-saturated choruses with a layer of electronic and pop influences. The band are returning with the final single in the series, ‘22 Below’, which promises to have crowds singing along in droves with its spirited theme of homesickness.

Dec 16 – Snooze Fest, a Pre-Xmas Pyjama Party

  • With Skerzo, Polly and the Pockets, Tommy Dynamite and the Explosions, Mature Themes, Scud and Echo Social Club

Melbourne’s psych-pop sweet-hearts Skerzo merge influences from avant-garde art-pop with free-spirited 70’s psychedelic rock, combining synthesisers, acoustic guitars, saxophone and flute. On a bill with six-piece groovers, Polly and the Pockets, who deliver a unique brand of psych-drenched, groove-laden, kicking alt-rock. In contrast to the title, this one’s gonna be spectacular.

Dec 21 – Calico Sunday with Peak Park, Pepper Le Floyd, Xandri

No really, who doesn’t love synth-pop? Calico Sunday are a five piece hailing from the northern suburbs that range from indie rock to synth pop, you may have seen them at the likes of Max Watts, The Espy and Penny Black – they’re very cool indeed.

Dec 23 – Munted Chunts with Rattleback, Replacement Busses, The Rartel and Herterophobes

Terrible songs about the people, places and public transportation of Eastern Regional Victoria. P.S. we’re not changing the name.

Munted Chunts are throwing a very mounted chuntmas, overflowing with Aussie shed rock at its absolute finest, totally worth catching live. We also really love Rattleback in particular, if you like your music heavy, these are both local bands that should be on your bucket list.

Dec 31 – The Bergy Does NYE. Free entry, DJs in the garden ’til 3am

It’s been such a big year for The Bergy, we can’t think of a better place to ring in 2024. It’s going to be a suitably eclectic vibe with local legends, Bergy’s Brodie and Steiny, selecting some classics throughout the evening with the equally beloved bartenders getting a chance to play their own favourite tunes of the year. If you like Brunswick’s music community, this is the NYE bash for you.
