After launching in 2018, the Australian Women In Music Awards are set to return to Brisbane for a second year this October. Taking place over two days, the AWMAs look to shine a light on the achievements of women in the music industry, both on stage and behind the scenes, through a range of panels, keynotes and awards.
Last year, the likes of Jen Cloher, NGAIIRE, Camp Cope and Amy Shark were among those recognised for their artistic achievements, alongside industry professionals Claudia Sangiorgi Dalimore, Wendy McDougall and Anna Laverty who took home awards for film-making, live music photography and studio production, respectively.
Nominations for the 2019 AWMAs are now open, with this year’s categories expanded to include a Music Journalist Award, Humanitarian Award and Excellence in Classical Music Award. In addition to the award ceremony, this year will host a range of forums covering topics such as Visibility in Hip Hop – Women on the Front Line, The Art of Rebellion -The Intersection of Music and Politics, Image Making – The Changing Face of Music.
“We have so many wonderful people committed to the work we are doing. The AWMAs will keep getting bigger and more powerful; we are providing recognition for many women in the industry that have been ignored for far too long,” says Founding Executive Director and Creative Producer Vicki Gordon.
The Australian Women In Music Awards will take place at Brisbane Powerhouse on Tuesday October 8 and Wednesday October 9. For tickets, nominations and more information, head to the AWMA website.
