Robert Rooney is an Australian artist esteemed for his adept conceptual art immersed with influences of post-modernism, the abstract and suburban life. He is an exceptional artist and his budding photographs show this.
Rooney’s collection of black-and-white photography captures the innocence of Melbourne’s suburban stress, schoolyards and lifestyle, while still capturing a self-aware consciousness fraught with danger. Photographically wise, it truly shows his journey as over those years.
Complementing the exhibition will be a recent film entitled The Quadrangle 1956 (2009), a film created from Rooney’s photographs during this year.
