“This time around, we decided to keep it natural, simple, two-chord reggae. It’s feel-good music. We know what people like out of us. Let’s just be us,” frontman and vocalist Jesse Wagner says on Reggae Now!, their latest album.
“We wanted to keep it real.”
Hailing from Los Angeles, California, The Aggrolites formed in 2002 as the live backing band for reggae icon Derrick Morgan. Celebrating 20 years of the band this year, they’ve played as the backing band for legends Phyllis Dillon, Scotty, Joseph Hill of Culture, Prince Buster and Tim Armstrong.
Their debut album, Dirty Reggae, was recorded in 2003 and featured improvised on-the-spot lyrics, with each song on the album being recorded in one take – giving it that signature dirty and raw Aggrolites feel.
Their current lineup consists of Roger Rivas on piano and organ, Alex McKenzie on drums, Jesse Wagner on vocals and lead guitar, Jeff Roffredo on bass guitar and Ricky Chacon on rhythm guitar.
