Swervedriver have added a second show, on 14 September at Northcote Social Club, after their Corner Hotel date sold out.
That Corner Hotel booking was part of the Raise at 35 tour, on which Swervedriver play their 1991 debut album Raise from start to finish.
The added Northcote date flips that format: rather than the record in sequence, the band have promised a career-spanning set billed as a best of the rest. Opening the night is Melbourne group Fancy Weapon, whose line-up draws on members of Dirty Three, Mudhoney, God and Smoked Salmon.

Swervedriver first formed in Oxford back in 1989 under the name Shake Appeal, before landing a Creation Records deal on the strength of their demo. Label boss Alan McGee signed them on the recommendation of Ride guitarist Mark Gardener, and a run of EPs followed: Son of Mustang Ford, Rave Down and Sandblasted. The 1991 LP Raise arrived soon after and became a defining sound of early 90s underground alternative rock.
That record took shape around the guitar-heavy influence of My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr and Husker Du, twisted into a shimmering, high-volume sound with a distinctly British edge. Three and a half decades on, the appetite hasn’t dimmed: their October UK run has already been snapped up. The Australian leg spreads the support around, with Sydney duo Chimers on most dates, psych-rock trio Brown Spirits joining for Sydney and Melbourne, and Lake Mammoth opening in Fremantle.
Fancy Weapon, appearing at the Northcote show only, arrive off the back of their own first album, bringing a heavyweight local pedigree to the support slot. The Corner Hotel booking shifted in a matter of weeks, so the second Melbourne show may not linger on sale for long. Tickets for the full national run, which stretches from Fremantle through to Adelaide, are on sale now through promoter Feel Presents.
