Sunbury '24 is paying tribute to the iconic Sunbury Pop Festival on its 50th anniversary in the best possible way.
Ross Wilson and The Peaceniks, Richard Clapton, Joe Camilleri and The Black Sorrows, Bob ‘Bongo’ Starkie’s Skyhooks Show, Margret Roadknight, Spectrum, Madder Lake and Matt Taylor and Phil Manning from Chain are just some of the legends reuniting to play Sunbury again!

The organisers have done an incredible job collating many of the very best acts to ever play the game-changing festival across its four-year lifespan, but it won’t just be a heritage festival either. Contemporary favourites like multi-ARIA nominee Emma Donovan, Karen Lee-Andrews and Sheldon Riley will also perform, retaining the festival’s legacy for showcasing excellent original Australian artists.
What’s more, as it’s being held by Hume City Council, tickets are very affordable. They’re available for just $30 (plus booking fee) for adults and completely free for anyone under 18-years-old.

Expect the full experience. Food and licensed beverage vendors, including local wine will be available at the festival. This is also just the beginning of Hume City Council’s commemorations, as there’ll be an exhibition and public art program to follow, with more events announced soon.
A brief history of Sunbury Pop Festival
For those of you unaware, Sunbury Pop Festival is the most influential festival in Australian music history. It pulled massive numbers (45,000 people), was the first to present the festival as a recurring annual event, and set the blueprint for the ‘festival season’ as we know it.
Kicking off in 1972, Sunbury had become the undisputed king of Australian festivals, mostly off the back of blistering sets by local heroes like Chain, Madder Lake and Spectrum.
It grew to become a yearly staple featuring international acts like Queen and Deep Purple alongside the likes of AC/DC, pushing the limits in everything from general capacity and concession quality to PA size, media access and more, and its constant aim to be bigger and greater ultimately helped lead to its demise.
Regardless, Sunbury was a trailblazer in every sense of the word and this celebration will be a very fitting tribute.
