Hailing from Japan and Australia, Sumo Dada is a cross-cultural collaboration, incorporating interdisciplinary music genres such as pop-punk, noise / drone, spectralism, minimalism and maximalism, wrapped in an anti-establishment pop music bubble. With a “compelling sound and vocal, solid arrangement and production, and a quirky, cool vibe”, their distinctive and original sound emanates from effect pedals and samples, an electric violin, electric taisho koto and a kick-arse bass. Supported by experimental avant jazz duo The Airpoets, the Naarm musical stalwarts Reuben Lewis and Adam Halliwell bringing their neo noir atmospheric melodies, and local folk rock Cetano to kick off proceedings. Doors at 7pm, First band 7:30. Tickets at the door, only $15.
