Steve Purcell & The Pearly Shells

Steve Purcell and the Pearly Shells, featuring special guest vocalist Julie O’Hara, take over an original hotspot for the enduringly popular jazz and swing genres.

The festive season kicks off for jazz lovers and swing dance enthusiasts at an historic Melbourne venue. The iconic ballroom will host cabaret tables for groups of toe tappers and space for swing stylers.

“The hall at Hawthorn Arts Centre has had swing dance parties since the end of the war. What a thrill to re-live this joyous era at such an important venue.” Steve Purcell.

Amongst the swinging Pearly Shells hits will be a generous helping of classic Christmas songs, and some unique renditions that are sure to usher in the holiday spirit.

Over more than 15 years, The Pearly Shells have gained a reputation as Melbourne’s premier jazz and swing band with a classic style and look reminiscent of the Golden Age of Basie, Goodman, Ellington and Brother Ray Charles.

Famous for their swingin’ back beat sound and Hollywood style, luminescent clam-shell stands, The Pearlys have been providing atmospheric soundtracks and irresistible dance grooves in jazz bars, clubs, festivals and dancehalls.

Tickets are now available for allocated seating at cabaret tables ideal for groups. Boroondara Arts bar will be open throughout the approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes show, including an intermission of 20 minutes.
