Stephanie Hare: A Chance to Address the Amish Rumours

This event is part of the 2025 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

Stephanie Hare grew up off the electricity grid without the internet, phone reception, TV, or even a fridge. When her mother was twenty-three, she left Melbourne, bought a goat, and built a house out of firewood in the middle-of-nowhere Tasmania. Now Steph is twenty-three and she’s written a comedy show about it. Her little brother used to finger knit harnesses and ride the goat like a horse; her father spent weeks living in a cave; her mother snuck into the neighbours’ paddocks at night to shear their sheep; and Steph thought that was all pretty normal until she moved to Melbourne.

This is a whimsical show that encapsulates the absurdity of rural life, the chaos of being a twenty-something, and how much Steph loves Instagram reels.
