Another year, another round of incredible gigs.

This summer, Stay Gold’s bringing the heat with more shows that you can shake a stick at. From frenzied metal acts to life affirming indie balladeers, the stage will host talent from across the genre spectrum – with a few international stars to boot.

Whether you’re already a fan of these bands or you’re just trying to fulfil your new year’s resolution of discovering new music, Stay Gold’s got the goods this month. Here’s what’s happening.

Stay Gold Summer Karaoke

Got pipes? Running all summer long, this sweat-soaked karaoke comp offers a chance to belt your heart out for $10,000 cold hard cash. Whether you’re there to compete or just to cheer on mates with wildly enthusiastic renditions of pop classics, it’s sure to be a laugh-filled Sunday sesh. 

Kirrilee

Support local sounds with Kirrilee and special guests ONIQ, Amalia and Eadiella celebrating a brand-new single drop. It’s an indie-pop-meets-community vibe where good tunes, good people and good energy collide, ideal for a cozy Friday night.

Saturday brings a tribute bonanza with System Of A Don’t alongside Death Bats (A7X tribute) and Rare Maiden (performed by C()ntact), making for a meaty night of rock and metal goodness. 

Matte Black: $B Appreciation Night

Get ready for a late-night party vibe as Matte Black and No Future DJs take over Stay Gold well past midnight. This appreciation night is all about heavy-hitting alt rap and $uicideboy$-style beats, spun till the early hours for fans of the genre’s darkest, most immersive sounds. 

Jacob Fitzgerald & The Electric City and Friends of Friends

Mid-January sees indie rockers Jacob Fitzgerald & The Electric City and Friends of Friends bringing their co-headline tour to Brunswick with special guest Des Cortez. Expect tight musicianship and infectious grooves that’ll have you swaying and singing into the Saturday night. 

Divorced Dad Rock Night

Who said dad rock is dead? This cheeky themed night celebrates the timeless riffs and sing-along anthems that defined generations. Grab a schooner and revel in nostalgia with mates on a laidback Sunday. 

Rollin’: Nu Metal & Alt Rock Night 

If you grew up screaming along to One Step Closer and smashing air-guitars at home, this night’s basically your dream come true. DJs will be spinning all the classic nu-metal and alt-rock bangers, from Linkin Park and Korn to Slipknot and Rage Against the Machine, into the early hours.

Melbourne plays host to Connecticut’s Boundaries on their first headline run in Australia, a giant moment for fans of crushing breakdowns and raw hardcore vibes. They’ll be joined by fellow heavy-hitters Starve, Outsider and Blood Oath.

Orange County metalcore titans Bleeding Through storm into Stay Gold for a night of unrelenting heaviness, joined by a killer assembly of local deathcore and metalcore acts. It’ll be a go-hard, sweat-soaked Thursday that’ll have pits spinning and voices screaming. 

Mid Youth Crisis

Rounding out the month, Melbourne veterans Mid Youth Crisis return for a sold-out show filled with emo, punk and angsty anthems. Former in the 1990s, this foundational force of melodic hardcore is not to be missed.

Hellfire Club: ’80s Night

Hellfire Club is throwing an ’80s-tastic bash with classic new wave pop and indie rock throwbacks, neon vibes and big hair energy. Dust off your shoulder pads and hit the dance floor for some retro boogie inspired by the hit TV show Stranger Things.
