St Kilda’s iconic strip is trying to reclaim its party reputation by welcoming back rave culture this month

Words by staff writer

WRLD PEACE AGENDA presents St Kilda Sessions Coffee Rave, a day-to-night celebration of electronic music and community.

Starting as a coffee-fueled daytime disco before transforming into a proper rave, St Kilda Sessions Coffee Rave aims to revive the embattled Fitzroy Street precinct – which has suffered a high amount of business turnover in recent years – by reconnecting local residents and encouraging visitors with the authentic spirit of dance culture. WRLD PEACE AGENDA has organised this event as a response to what they see as a need for genuine creativity in the local scene.

Running from 11am through to late night, the event will showcase nine acts across DJ sets and live performances. WRLD PEACE AGENDA’s vision extends beyond just throwing a party – they’re positioning themselves as a co-operative driven organisation where profits flow back to members and support meaningful community causes.

Artists performing include Breeze, Brooke Powell, Hans DC, Jrao, Kids Table, Lani G, Montana Azul, live act Puto and Rytharchitect. Each brings their own flavour to what promises to be an eclectic day of electronic music spanning various subgenres and styles.

WRLD PEACE AGENDA has been observing Fitzroy Street’s evolution over the past 15 years, noting changes in the local music landscape. Their approach centres on returning to core rave values of authenticity, unity and passion rather than commercial considerations.

Buba Middle Eastern Restaurant will be transformed into a mini disco for the afternoon sessions before the evening rave component kicks in. This unique venue choice reflects the organisers’ commitment to doing things differently and supporting local businesses within the St Kilda community.

Whether you’re a longtime participant in Melbourne’s electronic scene or new to rave culture, St Kilda Sessions Coffee Rave positions itself as an inclusive celebration of what makes dance music special. Starting with coffee and community before building to a full-blown dance floor experience seems fitting for an event focused on bringing people together.
