With their second album, legacy Australian underground band Guiltfilter have delivered a hard-hitting gem.

Melbourne-based alt-rock band Guiltfilter has unleashed La Bandera, their second album, across digital streaming platforms, bringing fans a gritty, no-nonsense collection of original tracks that stay true to the band’s DIY ethos.

Recorded at Thirty Mill Studios in Brunswick and produced by legendary music producer Mark Opitz (known for his work with AC/DC, The Angels, INXS), La Bandera captures Guiltfilter’s intense, underground sound.

The album’s name, La Bandera (meaning ‘The Flag’ in Spanish), was inspired by a Mexican lotería card, symbolizing identity and resilience. Initially released on CD in 2022, La Bandera was an immediate hit, with physical copies and merch selling out during a post-COVID tour spanning Queensland, South Australia, and northside Victoria.

To further connect with fans, Guiltfilter filmed and self-produced four music videos for tracks Acronym, Entropy, No Names and Young And Free. These visuals, released on the band’s official channels, reflect their raw, unfiltered style and commitment to authentic storytelling.

Guiltfilter’s journey began in Sydney, where founding members Mags (vocals, guitar) and Adrian (drums) made waves in the city’s music scene under the name The Dolls, playing alongside Australian rock icons and even supporting Nirvana during their only Australian tour in 1992.

After returning to Melbourne, they released two extended EPs, L.A. and Live Porn, before adopting the name Guiltfilter with the addition of bassist Drew Bassford. They gained a strong following with their debut album La Calavera, recorded at Platinum Studios and established themselves with performances at iconic venues like The Tote and the Gershwin Room.

La Bandera launches Guiltfilter into a brand new era as they share their work with a wider audience through streaming. The band is already hard at work on their third album, expected to be released soon.

Known for their dynamic live performances and commitment to independent artistry, Guiltfilter remains an integral voice in Australia’s underground rock scene.
