Featuring over 14 Australian exclusives, 13 Australian premieres, four world premieres and five exclusive Supersense commissions, Supersense 2017 will feature an extraordinary program of legendary artists and music pioneers, who will be exploring the sublime and supernatural in their work over the course of three days in August.

Created in 2015 by Arts Centre Melbourne with Melbourne and New York-based performer and curator Sophia Brous, Supersense investigates contemporary and traditional perspectives on ecstatic experience across music, dance, film, visual art and design. With over a whopping 8,000 attendees for their inaugural 2015 program, 2017 will see Supersense follow their success with an even bigger affair with a host of first-time collaborations thanks to the return of the unique Overground: A Festival Within a Festival – a day-long showcase featuring a huge line-up of underground Australian and international sound innovators in first-time collaborations.

The lineup features both Australian and international talents including (but definitely not limited to) visionary UK space-rockers Spiritualized performing their music with the Australian Art Orchestra and The Consort of Melbourne, mew project from David Byrne’s Luaka Bop label The Ecstatic Music of Alice Coltrane Turiyasangitananda, the Australian exclusive premiere of Pussy Riot Theatre presenting their electronic punk opera Riot Days, Berber Sufi trance ensemble The Master Musicians of Jajouka led by Bachir Attar in their Aussie debut, and art-rock icons Blonde Redhead performing their album Misery is a Butterfly with a string ensemble.

With Japan’s Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso U.F.O., New Zealand’s EXO-TECH (featuring Kimbra), international project Nazoranai, Sophia Brous’ Lullaby Movement, the UK’s Oliver Coates and many, many more acts on offer, this is a rare, illuminating opportunity to witness something truly game-changing.
