Spinning Around has launched the VA: Spinning Around 2021 Alumni VA Compilation, with all proceeds going to Pay The Rent and the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service.

The VA: Spinning Around 2021 Alumni VA Compilation features new original productions from some of this year’s guests on Spinning Around on Area 3000.

To celebrate the end of 2021 and Area3000s first year in action, the show’s host, Melbourne DJ Highly Minogue (Jay Kim), invited a number of the year’s guests to contribute to a new charity compilation, which will be available for purchase exclusively on Bandcamp, features new original productions from each artist.

Keep up with the latest music news, festivals, interviews and reviews here.

The artists featured are as follows:
  1. An Avrin (UK)
  2. DAWS (Melbourne, VIC)
  3. Dj Whipr Snipr (Nerang, QLD)
  4. Dr. Chicken Gristle (Melbourne, VIC)
  5. Ekzander (Melbourne, VIC)
  6. Feline Fine (Melbourne, VIC)

  13. Tuesday Brunch (Sydney, NSW)
  14. XYSid (Melbourne, VIC)
  15. Yollks (Melbourne, VIC)

All the proceeds are going directly to Australian Indigenous organisations – including Pay The Rent and the Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service – causes Kim feels strongly about after the loss of a dear friend back in 2014.

“I’ve seen first-hand the good that community law and grassroots social services can do for people in need,” Kim wrote. “I recognise that these charities aren’t long-term solutions for the problems they seek to alleviate, but they provide the baseline of advocacy and protection of minimum rights. Throughout the years, my friend Tyson Holloway-Clarke was an incredibly helpful and empathetic guide and helped me to understand the issues First Nations people face in Australia, especially after we both experienced the loss of a close friend several years ago.

“I got on the phone with industry friend Jack Ferris who runs Warrang-based label eclectic. Since supporting each other’s projects throughout the lockdowns, I’ve always admired his passion and work ethic. He taught me everything I know, which is a far cry from the gatekeeping that’s commonplace in the industry. He is the change I want to see.”

The compilation features many of the underground’s stalwart producers such as DAWS, FOURA, Hedchef, Yollks, Sam Alfred, and An Avrin. Thanks to the show’s diverse tastes in electronic dance, listeners can expect a variety of sounds including ambient, disco, balearic, UK bass, deep house, electro and more.

The compilation is out for streaming on the Highly Minogue [Spinning Around] Soundcloud and for purchase on the Spinning Around Bandcamp.
