The Runaway Train hitmakers Soul Asylum are teaming up with Ugly Kid Joe for a five-city co-headline run in March 2027.
Two rock survivors are pooling their firepower: Soul Asylum and Ugly Kid Joe are touring Australia together in March 2027.
The co-headline run marks Soul Asylum’s first Australian shows since the mid-90s, while Ugly Kid Joe were last on local stages back in 2017. Five dates take in Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, opening 15 March and wrapping up 21 March.
Soul Asylum built their name in Minneapolis in the early 80s, growing from punk and indie roots into the alternative rock act behind the double-platinum Grave Dancers Union. Runaway Train came off that 1992 record, cracking the top five of the US Billboard Hot 100 and collecting a Grammy for best rock song. Frontman Dave Pirner and co have kept at it across 13 studio albums since.

Ugly Kid Joe come at the bill from the louder corner of the same decade. Formed in California in the late 80s, they made history when their 1991 debut EP As Ugly As They Wanna Be went double platinum, becoming the first short-form release ever certified multi-platinum by the RIAA.
Debut album America’s Least Wanted arrived in 1992, home to the Harry Chapin cover Cat’s in the Cradle and the top 10 smash Everything About You, which also landed on the Wayne’s World soundtrack. The band reunited in 2010 and are now sitting on a follow-up to 2022’s Rad Wings of Destiny, with producer and guitarist Dave Fortman promising a heavier, metal-leaning direction next time out.
This will be Soul Asylum’s first Australian visit in roughly three decades, and there’s a deep well of material waiting, from Somebody to Shove and Black Gold through to soundtrack slots in Kevin Smith’s Chasing Amy and Clerks. Early bird pre-sale tickets open from 11am local time on 14 September, with general tickets following from 11am on 16 September.
