Fröhliche Weihnachten!
Embrace the enchantment of the holiday season by immersing yourself in the heartwarming atmosphere of a traditional German Christmas Market.
Hosted at Dreifaltigkeitskirche Melbourne, Melbourne’s Lutheran church and community centre, the event offers visitors a chance to celebrate the Christmas traditions of Germany (which are a little different than ours here in Australia).

Following church service, the market kicks off with the grand opening by the Christkindl from Nuremberg, setting the tone for a magical celebration. Families can create lasting memories by meeting St. Nikolaus and capturing the moment with a cherished photograph.
What’s a Christmas celebration without music? Join in the festive spirit as you sing along to classic Christmas carols, accompanied by a talented brass ensemble and harmonious voices of the Immergrün choir.
Fill your belly with authentic German snacks and sweets, including Christmas cookies, gingerbread, waffles, pretzels and the ever-popular Bratwurst sausages, as well as tea and other drinks to sip on.
For those eager to check off items on their Christmas shopping list, the market offers a treasure trove of items handmade by members of the church and the Melbourne German community.
Explore stalls adorned with Christmas ornaments, wreaths, soap, treats and unique jewellery crafted from Zwirnsknöpfe, a modern twist on an old Austrian tradition.
The serene churchyard will be decorated with handmade Christmas huts, lovingly created by volunteers. Wander through them, snacking on gingerbread and you’ll feel transported to the old-timey Germanic villages. There may even be a dusting of snow – a true Christmas miracle!
