Single Of The Week

Hex : Page Of Pentacles

Sick licks and a sense of overseeing detachment come together for something pretty spesh coming from New Zealand trio Hex, concocting a mix that effortlessly blends sharp post-punk and sprawling desert rock on Page Of Pentacles. Caught them over New Year’s and they’re even sicker live – they’re hopping over the ditch for a shitload of Melbourne shows this April, you’d be an egg to miss out.

Kendrick Lamar : The Heart Part 4

The cold war between Kendrick and Drake continues to get a little hotter, with Kendrick firing a standalone warning salvo for his upcoming fourth LP, soon after Drake’s pretty great More Life. The Heart Part 4 sets the tone lyrically, signalling a take-no-prisoners approach. Kenny always walks the walk after talking the talk, but anything short of another classic on album number four will be a letdown.

Perfume Genius : Slip Away

Slip Away feels as if Mike Hadreas is whispering comfort during a space shuttle launch at a renaissance fair, corporeal and climactic. It’s all too brief. I guess that’s part of the magic. Sheer satisfaction, a tinge of longing.

Iggy Azalea : Mo Bounce

Who knew Mullumbimby has an even richer Bounce heritage than New Orleans? This is pure hell.
