Single premiere: Nic Rollo’s ‘Show Me What Hurts’ is the perfect sad synth dance track

Nic Rollo

Rollo’s new release stems from his emotional songwriting process.

Perth multi-instrumentalist and singer Nic Rollo has lifted the lid on his latest single, ‘Show Me What Hurts’.

The track features a healthy dose of synth and guitar, with just a hint of R&B from the keys, making it the perfect track to have a subtle sob to on the d-floor to. ‘Show Me What Hurts’ will feature in Rollo’s upcoming EP, set to be released later this year.

Inspired by acts like Mac DeMarco and Tame Impala, Rollo started to perfect his craft from the age of 15. His largely self-produced work is very much an emotional outlet, which is why his discography tends to be quite dark in its subject matter. For ‘Show Me What Hurts’, Rollo said the recording sessions were tough at times and he often second-guessed himself.

“This song was written and recorded for my debut album, where a lot of the themes centre around the slow fracturing of a relationship and how these things typically happen slowly over time,” he said.

“I was questioning a lot of things in regards to whether the songs were good enough for an album and if my singing was at its best.”
