Simona Castricum's new album Villain lands 4 September via Trans-Brunswick Express, with a national run to follow.
Simona Castricum has announced a set of national headline shows across October and November, timed to new album Villain.
The run lands alongside Outgrown, a fresh single pulled from the record, which Simona Castricum releases on 4 September through her own imprint, Trans-Brunswick Express. Outgrown is framed as a set of reflections addressed to a younger self, turning over ideas of emotional maturity and the pressure to simply move on from hurt.

Villain is built around a conceptual persona of the same name, a figure Castricum uses to pull apart the political and relational projections placed on transgender women. The album was written at 50, and follows Panic/Desire from 2020 and SINK from 2023.
The record took shape at Rolling Stock Studios in Collingwood and Castricum’s own Trans-Brunswick Express space, with the songs developed through her 2025 live shows with drummer Anetta Nevin. Sui Zhen co-produced, Jonnine Nokes of Screensaver engineered, and Los Angeles producer Jorge Elbrecht handled the mix. It comes out through Trans-Brunswick Express, distributed via Poison City Records.
A fixture of Naarm/Melbourne’s underground, Castricum threads post-punk and dream-pop through synth-wave, performing live as a duo. The pair have appeared at Golden Plains, Dark Mofo and Melbourne Music Week, and shared stages with Lydia Lunch, Drab Majesty, Peaches and !!!. Both Panic/Desire and SINK earned Australian Music Prize longlistings.
