Wikileaks founder Julian Assange does not deserve persecution: show your support.

Getup needs 30,000 emails for a petition to condemn attacks against Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.

You can add your voice here. It’s real easy.

After founding Wikileaks in 2006, Assange has recently released more than 251,000 US diplomatic cables causing uproar around the globe. His site has been blocked by mulitple service providers, and companies like Mastercard and Paypal have stopped servicing the site, making it difficult to donate to it to keep it running.

Underground internet activist group Anonymous have in turn retaliated with Denial Of Service attacks on these companies. Wikileaks’ statement neither endorses or condemns this behaviour.

Assange has faced numerous threats from all around the world and a complete lack of support from Julia Gillard and the Australian government. Plans to extradite him to Sweden or elsewhere so he can be punished by the US government and tried unfairly have come to light, and the Getup petition is against this kind of action.

"We, as Australians, condemn calls for violence, including assassination, against Australian citizen and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, or for him to be labeled a terrorist, enemy combatant or be treated outside the ordinary course of justice in any way."

If you support free speech, media as the fourth estate, fair trial and not shooting the messenger, then you should add your name now. They’re close to 40% of their target and need you.
