Melbourne hip-hop heavyweight Joelistics has unleashed his politically charged new track Punching Down via Sensible Antixx Records. The veteran wordsmith doesn’t hold back on this scathing critique of power and privilege in Australia’s current pre-election climate.
Punching Down marks Joelistics’ bold return to the frontline of political hip-hop, reinforcing his reputation for cerebral lyricism and illustrative poetic address. Over a gritty mid-90s Beastie Boys reminiscent beat laced with gut-punching drums and Iggy and the Stooges era guitars, the single dissects the cultural climate with surgical precision.

The track takes aim at intergenerational wealth acquisition, the rise of alt-right politics and conspiracy theorists, serving as a rallying cry against Australia’s power-wielding officials. Entirely self-produced with all instruments played by Joelistics himself, Punching Down showcases his multi-faceted musical talents.
This release comes just weeks after his latest offering Light Work dropped, which was premiered by AAA Backstage. Fans can expect a forthcoming album slated for release later this year, continuing his tradition of boundary-pushing creativity and unflinching honesty.
Punching Down serves as the debut release from Sensible Antixx Records, with director Antony Attridge expressing admiration for Joelistics’ artistry and the track’s outspoken approach to Australian and international politics.
Before carving out his unique solo path, Joelistics first came to prominence as frontman of seminal Aussie hip-hop group TZU. His solo career has included acclaimed albums like Voyager and Blue Volume, released through iconic label Elefant Traks.
