Co-founded by the legendary Elvis Costello, Demon Music has established a reputation as one of the world’s best catalogue/reissue labels, with their drive to promote niche and cult bands who mightn’t ordinarily get exposure positioning them as recognised tastemakers.

Interestingly enough, Costello’s connection to Dog Trumpet harks all the way back to 1982 when the music luminary produced Mental As Anything’s hit, ‘I Didn’t Mean To Be Mean’.

With the Demon Music record deal, Dog Trumpet’s 2002 self-titled record will see a vinyl release along with their debut, Two Heads One Brain, and other albums, Suitcase (1996), Antisocial Tendencies (2007), River of Flowers (2010), Medicated Spirits (2013), and their 2020 LP, Great South Road.

For those not across Dog Trumpet, the band embodies a stylistic pivot from Mental As Anything, one that’s difficult to describe but represents a melange of “rock, psychedelic folk and semi-abstract blues”.

Those after a comparison could perceive likenesses to music’s long tradition of left-field songwriters and storytellers, where the likes of Nick Lowe, John Prine and bands such as The Kinks and Squeeze found their home.

Dog Trumpet’s seven albums are now available on all streaming platforms, with vinyl releases available from Friday October 29. For more on the band, head here.
