Scienceworks
words by Frankie Anderson-Byrne

Scienceworks is throwing Valentine's Under the Stars, an after-hours cosmic celebration on 14 February.

Valentine’s Under the Stars invites couples and friends aged 18 and over to explore Scienceworks after dark, blending science, art and romance into one stellar evening. Running from 6pm to 10pm, this adults-only event transforms Scienceworks into a celestial wonderland where guests can stroll through galleries with live entertainment, marvel at jaw-dropping installations, and get crafty with keepsake-making activities.

Centre stage is the mesmerising four-metre Museum of the Moon installation in the Planetarium Foyer.

Picture this: you’re sprawled out with a picnic basket, gazing up at realistic lunar details while contemplating the vast universe above. You’ll feel both infinitesimally small and wonderfully connected to everything around you.

Love Is In The Stars is the evening’s specially curated Planetarium show, a 30-minute live experience weaving ancient celestial love stories with stunning visual journeys. Sessions run at 6:30pm, 7:15pm and 8pm, taking viewers from Melbourne’s night sky right out among the stars to some truly amorous astronomical destinations. It’s included with your ticket, so you can soak up the cosmos without breaking the bank.

Over in the STEM Lab, things get hands-on with a bracelet-making station running until 9:30pm. Whether you’re crafting something for your date, your bestie, or just treating yourself, it’s a sweet way to create a memento from the night. Choose from a rainbow of colourful beads and get as creative as you like.

Live entertainment will keep the vibes flowing throughout the evening (details to be announced), while food and drink will be available for purchase, making this a complete night out without the hassle of dinner reservations elsewhere.

Whether you’re an astronomy nerd, planning a memorable date night, or simply want to celebrate Valentine’s Day differently this year, Valentine’s Under the Stars offers something beyond the usual dinner-and-a-movie routine. It’s a chance to connect with your favourite humans while contemplating our place in the universe; and really, what’s more romantic than that?

Don’t forget to swing by the photo booth to capture your cosmic memories before the night ends.
