This month, Melbourne’s Sand Pebbles will release their fifth or sixth album (depending on how you look at it), Dark Magic. Lead single Occupied Europe features a familiar interlacing web of guitars and gothic post-rock tones. The vocal work by Tor Larsen is super-femme and sounds, at certain points in the chorus, like The Bangles. The overall effect is evocative and atmospheric, but ultimately kind of forgettable.
