“We started contact with Bluesfest to inform them of our standpoint within half an hour of receiving the embargoed press release and seeing the remainder of the line-up,” reads a statement from Sampa The Great’s representatives to Double J.

“We then delivered final confirmation to Bluesfest at 7:36pm AEDT on Tuesday 14 February that Sampa was coming off the line-up, in the hopes they would remove her from all materials before they announced the following day.”

Sampa The Great is the second artist to officially rescind themselves from the lineup, with the psych-rock band King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard having pulled out earlier this week.

Sticky Fingers were announced as part of the Bluesfest lineup on February 14. The band has been at the heart of a number of controversies, including targeted sexism and racismtransphobia, violence and just all round bad behaviour.

After citing mental health issues and taking an indefinite hiatus in 2016 following the fallout after Thelma Plum alleged that lead singer Dylan Frost had physically threatened her, Sticky Fingers was announced as part of Byron Bay Bluesfest’s lineup last week.

With a tour of Europe on the horizon for Sticky Fingers, they are also set to perform at Bass in the Domain festival in Hobart this March.
