An Evening With Sammy J & Randy is a riotously funny and entertaining musical comedy packed with plenty of laughs.
After some awkward answering machine texts and telling Delta Goodrem to fuck off, the duo take great delight in heckling latecomers into the show. From here, the show kicks into full gear and the audience are treated to a hilarious hour of songs and jokes. From the One Phone Call song about fish and chip homicide to a metaphor off competion via song to an alliteration battle to the Secrecy Whore song where the duo spill all their secrets, the audience is kept in stiches with their entertaining approach to storytelling.
Particular highlights of the show include the sight of Randy crowdsurfing over the audience to the tunes of Delta Goodrem, Randy suckling at Sammy J’s nipple and an epic battle between Randy and a possum in an attempt to upstage Sammy J as he lectures the audience on what upstaging is. Closing the night with Swiss Lovers in a Past Life, the pair deservedly earn their cheers from the audience at the end.
These two are so good at what they do that even an awkward silence has the audience laughing. The banter between Sammy J and Randy is a real treat and they really feel like the original odd couple. Sammy J’s charm and awkwardness plays off fantastically against Randy’s sarcasm and perverted nature and the audience can’t help but be entertained by these two charismatic oddballs.
