With a long and notable international career spanning over 30 years, Shillito has worked with The Darkness across their 17-year career, and has worked with a host of other well-known artists along the way, including Courtney Love, Florence and the Machine, Mel C (Spice Girls) and Morcheeba.

Shillito visited the South Melbourne campus to give a masterclass on live sound production while sharing his experience touring internationally with bands, and imparted some valuable advice on working in the audio industry.

Students were then invited to attend a full-day practical workshop with Shillito and the band’s production crew at 170 Russell. The workshop included an extensive overview into mixing front-of-house sound using an Avid Venue Profile system, mixing on-stage monitors via a Digico SD8 console, with Shillito showing the group how he equalises the monitors and why. Shillito’s valuable knowledge provided students with tips, hacks and demonstrated best practice in the professional arena of live audio.

Guests like Shillito, who share invaluable knowledge and experience to students are frequent visitors at the SAE Melbourne campus.  For anyone interested in watching Shillito’s guest lecture at SAE, you can view a filmed recording of the session on SAE’s YouTube channel.
