Indie-pop-latino group Rubita are excited to release their first single in some time called ‘Nigel’ at Bodriggy on July 23!!
The song reflects the capitalist world, and how workers spend years slaving away to a company giving their heart and soul, and yet they will never be acknowledge or felt seen by those in power.
With Christian’s congos and Rubita’s finger plucked guitar chords, the song bursts with Latino flavours, yet it is a soft, comforting song – much like the security of an office job – with the chorus featuring the warm vocals from Kris Furer.
Having studied electric guitar and songwriting at the University of Otago in Aotearoa, Rubita is the musical project of Rachel Kibblewhite. With soulful melodies inspired by friendship, working for the man and romance, Christian shares his Latino rhythms, Flynn delivers quirky basslines and Matt brings solid and driving drum rhythms.
Joining Rubita on the night is Ingrid Saker (Ingrid and The Ministers) and Ruby Fraser (Leopard Print Aunt, The After). Having just finished touring with The Superjesus in June, Ingrid and Ruby are an electric duo of powerful vocals, incredible stage presence and intricate guitar solos.
