He picked up the Whispering Bob Harris Emerging Artist Award at the Americana Music Association UK Awards and has three studio albums under his belt, most recently Tough Love.
Andrews is a Wollongong-raised, Sydney-based singer and multi-instrumentalist whose sound draws on blues, soul and gospel alongside her Polynesian heritage. She has toured nationally with Cold Chisel and played major festivals including Woodford, WOMADelaide and Queenscliff.
The NSC pairing makes for a compelling match-up. Cavanagh built his reputation on raw, emotionally driven live performances, earning support from BBC Radio 2’s Bob Harris and racking up festival appearances across the UK, Europe, the US and Canada.
Andrews brings a completely different energy, rooted in what she describes as oceanic blues and soul, a style shaped by growing up in Wollongong, her Polynesian heritage and years spent leading a church band. Both artists will perform solo on the night, giving the audience two distinct but complementary takes on roots-based songwriting.
The Robbie Cavanagh and Karen Lee Andrews double bill at Northcote Social Club is on sale now.
