Reverend Horton Heat announce first Australian tour in over a decade

Words by staff writer

Reverend Horton Heat are finally returning to Australia for the first time in a decade this November.

The Texas outfit, fronted by guitar slinger Jim Heath with longtime double bassist Jimbo Wallace, have spent more than three decades fusing rockabilly, country and punk into something unmistakably their own. Reverend Horton Heat will roll through five cities across five consecutive dates, starting in Brisbane on 11 November and finishing up in Castlemaine on 15 November. Tickets are on sale now through davidroywilliams.com.

Each stop features a different bill of local support acts. Melbourne’s date at the Croxton Bandroom on 14 November brings along The Johnnys, the storied Australian cow-punk outfit whose catalogue stretches all the way back to the early 1980s pub rock era, plus Ezra Lee & Jumpin’ Jethro rounding out the bill with rock and roll boogie.

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

The Johnnys also pop up on the Sydney and Castlemaine dates, making them the most frequent support act across the run. Sydney’s Factory show on 13 November adds guitarist Pat Capocci to the card alongside The Johnnys, while Brisbane’s Crow Bar gets a triple-threat opening lineup: The Linelockers, Jake & The Cadillacs and DJ Lori Lee spinning rockabilly vinyl courtesy of Greazefest. Over in Adelaide, neo-rockabilly act The Satellites take the support slot at The Gov on 12 November.

It’s been a long stretch between Australian visits for a band whose live reputation precedes them at every turn. Five cities, five nights, no rest days. If you missed them last time around, this is the one.
