Riverboats Music Festival opens applications for its new Dungula Discovery Stage.
Echuca’s river red gums are getting a new stage, and Riverboats Music Festival wants regional musicians to fill it.
Applications are now open for the Dungula Discovery Stage, a new addition to Riverboats Music Festival that’s reserved for emerging musicians based in regional Australia.
The name comes from the Yorta Yorta word for the Murray River, and the stage lands as the festival marks its 15th anniversary in February 2027. It builds on the festival’s long-running ties to regional Australia. Echuca’s Rabbit Trax Promotions has teamed up with the festival to produce it.

Here’s the brief: the stage is open to solo artists and duos who can play a 20-minute set of original songs. Acts that get picked will receive a performance fee and a weekend ticket to Riverboats 2027.
Applications close on 11 December, and artists can apply through the Riverboats website. Festival director David Frazer says the aim is to put emerging regional artists in front of more than 5,000 music fans, and to potentially find a few future mainstage acts along the way.
What else is happening at Riverboats
The new stage joins a 15th anniversary program that features The Cat Empire, Spiderbait, The Waifs, Troy Cassar-Daley, Fanny Lumsden, The Herd and Pierce Brothers, with more acts on the bill.
Riverboats Music Festival sets up beneath the river red gums at Echuca’s Aquatic Reserve.
Alongside the mainstage program, there are sideshows aboard the historic paddlesteamer PS Pevensey, so some of the music happens out on the water.
It’s a family-friendly weekend with unlimited pass-outs, and accommodation, pubs, restaurants and cafes are all within walking distance.
That makes Echuca-Moama an easy base for the stay.
