Happy birthday, Triple R! The free 50 Years of Triple R bash is landing at Fed Square on 12 November.
Fed Square is getting around 50 Years of Triple R; a nod to the Melbourne independent community station that’s been on air since 1976.
Over those five decades, Triple R has backed local musicians and artists, given airtime to issues that don’t always get a look-in, and given plenty of first-time broadcasters their start. The station runs on the efforts of volunteers and subscribers, and the night is a chance to celebrate what they’ve built.
The 50 Years of Triple R lineup features Courtney Barnett, Party Dozen and KAIIT, with Triple R MCs and DJs also on the bill. It’s free, all ages and right in the heart of the CBD, with the music kicking off from 6.15pm.

Courtney Barnett
Courtney Barnett is an indie singer, songwriter and musician who started out in pub rock and has since taken her songs to stadium crowds around the world.
She’s known for turning awkward, everyday moments into songs people can relate to. Her fourth album, Creature of Habit, came out earlier this year.
Party Dozen
Party Dozen formed in Sydney’s experimental noise-rock scene in 2017 and are now up to their fifth album, 21 Bum Salute.
The duo is made up of saxophonist Kirsty Tickle and drummer Jonathan Boulet. Their live shows draw on punk, no wave, industrial and free jazz, with a deliberate streak of chaos.
KAIIT
Papua New Guinea-born KAIIT blends neo-soul and hip-hop with the intimate feel of a jazz club, pairing smooth vocals with raw storytelling.
She picked up an ARIA Award in 2019 for best r&b/soul work, and an APRA Award in 2025 for most performed r&b/soul work.
More birthday plans
The celebrations don’t end on 12 November. A second 50 Years of Triple R event is heading to Fed Square in late November, with details still to come.
