Record Store Day is distributing three-inch records in 2019

Record Store Day has revealed it will be distributing “a whole batch” of three-inch records for its annual April celebration. Judging by RSD’s Facebook page, The Saboteurs (otherwise known as The Raconteurs outside Australia) will be one of the groups having a go at this curious music format.

The immediate question one might have when seeing these records are “what the hell would I play it on?”. Never fear: turntable manufacturer Crosley will be producing adorable three-inch record players to play the latest addition to your vinyl collection.

The three-inch vinyl is obviously an uncommon occurrence, but it isn’t entirely unheard of. For instance, according to Discogs, The White Stripes released around 600 three-inch records in 2014, following a previous release of 400 back in 2005.

It’s hard enough to dig through crate upon crate in order to find that one limited release you have your eye on, so RSD has really added pain to injury this year by making them a quarter of the size.
