Record Store Day 2015: Quality Records… Plus

What are the defining features of your store?

Quality Records Plus pride ourselves on being an independent store where customer service is foremost. We love music and feel our shop is somewhere where music lovers can share their passion and feel comfortable when they were abused for having such terrible taste.

What’s your store’s history?

When Quality Records…Plus started 21 years ago (happy birthday us), it was with the idea that it was a place that we would like to visit. We were the first (and for a long time, only) store in Australia to have a website dedicated solely to new vinyl and we stock one the largest ranges of new vinyl in the land.

If your store could be personified as one musical identity, living or dead, who would it be and why?

Is God a musical identity? We are, after all, omnipotent in all judgements musical. Maybe Feargal Sharkey, who defined the idea of a one hit wonder.

How will you be celebrating Record Store Day? What special releases/events will you be hosting?

A veritable extravaganza. RSD releases, collectibles, live music, door prizes and a rumour is abroad that The Beatles (or persons who looks slightly like them) may make an appearance. Breathtaking.

What’s the most obscure record you’ve ever sold and why?

Some American early ‘70s folkish/world music guy whose name we can’t remember, mainly because he was that obscure.

What’s your fondest memory involving a record?

A summer beach holiday listening to my sister’s one record over and over. It was The Beatles LP A Hard Day’s Night. Great holiday and great record.

Vinyl sleeves are great for album art, do you have a favourite album cover and why is it your favourite?

The cover of The Beatles White Album is a favourite because we don’t have to think about it much – or at all really.

Have you had any fanboy/girl moments with famous people who’ve been in your store? Who was it with and can you remember what they bought?

Too many to mention – rubbing shoulders with the rich and musically gifted is just part of the record retailers burden.
