Over 10,000 punters attended at Elsternwick Park, and raised over $100,000 for Reclink Australia to deliver sports and arts programs to assist disadvantaged folks nationwide.
After two draws in a row, the 2014 match was won by the Rockdogs 8.4.52 against the Triple R/PBS FM Megahertz’s 6.7.43. New recruit Benny Walker from the Rockdogs, won the Stephen Connelly Award for Best On Ground. ABC-TV filmed the game for a 7pm report. There were no less than seven streakers throughout the day.
The fine June day lived up to this year’s theme Such A Perfect Day, a tribute to Lou Reed who died last year. David Bridie was joined by a small choir to perform Perfect Day.
Kicking off the entertainment side of things after gates opened were kiddies act Elmo & Friends Live. Fraser A. Gorman, and The Smith Street Band followed, Hitting the stage at half time were Saskwatch. Painters & Dockers finished off a perfect day with a blistering set, with the crowd singing along to Die Yuppie Die, Kill Kill, Kill and You’re Going Home In The Back Of a Divvy Van.
The 2014 Reclink Community Cup was partnered by Australia Post, James Boags Draught, Bendigo Bank, Bayside City Council and Victorian Amateur Football Association.
