The final RAW Comedy semi-final heat is upon us, bringing the best young comedic talent from around Australia to The Evelyn Hotel in Fitzroy next week.

The last semi-final heat to unearth who’ll compete in the RAW Comedy Victorian final is going down next Thursday March 17 at the Evelyn Hotel in Fitzroy, the culmination of a whopping 10 heats to get to this point.

It truly is the Australian Open of comedy, and by now, those who started as nervous aspiring comedians are well on their way to becoming fully-fledged stand up heroes. The only thing between them and the RAW Comedy final – which is genuinely one of the funniest events in the lead up to the Melbourne International Comedy Festival – is a single semi-final heat.

What you need to know

  • The final Victorian RAW Comedy semi-final is on next week
  • It’s happening on Thursday 17 March 2022, 7.30pm
  • You can catch it at The Evelyn, Fitzroy

Keep up with Melbourne’s latest comedy news, reviews and interviews here.

Each contestant will be armed with their best five minutes (a lot longer than you might think) as they seek to follow in the esteemed footsteps of the likes of Hannah Gadsby, Ronny Chieng, Celia Pacquola, Matt Okine, Anne Edmonds, Becky Lucas and Aaron Chen, just to name a few.

So, who are the names you need to know? Our potential future stand up superstars are Sashi Perera, Blake Pavey, Helena Hogan and Nathan Hugh Robért. You may well have seen some of these names pop up on your socials or YouTube, if not, we recommend checking them out to get a taste of what to expect.

Winners from this final heat go on to compete in the Victorian state final, with the last one standing securing the opportunity to perform at the National Grand Final at the 2022 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

The Melbourne semi-final is happening on Thursday 17 March 2022, 7.30pm at The Evelyn, Fitzroy. Find tickets here.
