Rainbow Serpent is holding a one-off city event this month

Rainbow Serpent
Words by Lucas Radbourne

One of Australia’s premier festivals Rainbow Serpent Festival is holding a one-off city event called Rainbow Reunion at Melbourne Pavilion on April 17.

Rainbow Reunion marks a new beginning for the festival, which will shift to new dates in April when it returns to its permanent home on the shared Dja Dja Wurrung and Wadawurrung Countries in Lexton in 2023.

In the meantime, fans will be able to experience Rainbow favourites like Antix, Grouch, Freq and Spoonbill in Kensington, at the Melbourne Pavilion. The scope will be suitably extensive, with four stages and two outdoor areas, an art gallery with live painters, live artistic performers, and a market and food bazaar.

What you need to know

  • Rainbow Reunion is bringing a taste of Rainbow Serpent Festival to Melbourne Pavillion on April 17
  • Antix, Grouch, Freq, Spoonbill and many others will light up the Kensington venue
  • There’ll be four stages and two outdoor areas, live painters and performers, and a market bazaar

Stay up to date with what’s happening in and around Melbourne here.

As usual, there’ll be a selection of psytrance, progressive, house, techno and bass artists, with the full lineup also including the likes of ASHEZ, Doppel, Sunshine, Bayawaka, Bec Grenfell, and Jamie Stevens, just to name a few.

When Rainbow returns in 2023, it will return to the same beloved location but in the cooler Autumn months, which has likely come as some relief for anyone who’s done the five days in a stuffy tent.

Full Rainbow Reunion lineup

Antix, Grouch, Freq, Spoonbill, ASHEZ, Augmented, Ayabloom, Bayawaka, Bec Grenfell, Bobby Raver, Brian Fantana, Doppel, D-Rektional, GMJ & Matter, Goosebumpz, Gus Till,  Hypnotech, JPS, Karl Pilbrow, Kasey Taylor, Kundalini, Kodiak Kid, Milk Man, Ozzy, Shantaraam, Sunshine, The Oddness, Uone, Wilma, Zimonix

Programs and ticket information for their full festival’s grand return will be announced over the coming months, but in the meantime, Rainbow Reunion is a great opportunity to experience the festival that epitomises everything good about the Australian bush doof tradition, much closer to home.
