Q&A: Vimm

So then, what’s the band name and what do you ‘do’ in the band?

VIMM. I am David, I play drums and sing sometimes.

Bearing the terrible clichéd nature of this question, what do you reckon people will say you sound like?

Well I’d think most people would just say we play rock music. However one person once described us as post-grunge which sits fairly well I guess.

What do you love about making music?

The fact it gives me something to do. And it’s made a few people think that I’m cool.

What do you hate about the music industry?

I think pop music these days is mostly not very good. Pop music charts should really be called pop marketing charts. I mean people should listen to whatever they want to listen to. I find it just gets under my skin when there’s a new hit song being pushed down everyone’s throat and it’s so exceptionally average!

If you could travel back in time and show one of your musical heroes your stuff, who would it be and why?

Maybe Kurt Cobain and Nirvana? Because maybe they would’ve liked it and said something like “this is real cool guys, you should open for us on our upcoming tour”. I think we would go down well with that crowd.

If you could assassinate one person or band from popular music, who would it and why?

Pass!

What can a punter expect from your live show?

We put on a great live show. People seem to dance like crazy and lose their shit! It’s great when that happens because we lose our shit too.

What’ve you got to sell CD-wise?

The band has recently become a three piece with Tim, ex-solo lead singer, getting on the bass and us deciding that we’d all sing lead on different tracks. Our debut EP (with this line-up), Men of Science is available as a free download at vimmband.com.

Anything else to add?

A good friend friend of ours, Chris Thompson, has just finished a video for one of our tracks Money Honey. It’s real cool and can be seen at vimmband.com.
