Q&A: The Pretty Littles

prettylittles.jpg

Your name:

Jack Parsons.

Your band’s name:

The Pretty Littles.

What’s the deal with the band’s name:

I don’t like your tone… just a shit-hot collection of words of no relevance to anything really, that were kind of said in I Am The Walrus describing a policeman.

Define your sound in five words or less:

Bang, Slap, Shred, Yell.

Someone is walking past as you’re playing, they get a beer and tell their friend about you… what do they say?

Friend 1, “Hmmmm.., really milking that Vasco Era card, eh?” Friend 2, “Milking it like an udder.” Friend 1, “Classic.”

The two proceed to have a great night full of non-stop gags like the one above.

And how do they dance?

Like old friends.

How long have you been gigging and writing?

Been writing for a long time and gigging for a reasonably short time. Maybe two years now? Yeah I’d say two years. Only semi-seriously as of this year though.

What’s been your favourite gig you’ve played to date?

We got to play at The Forum ‘cause Jeff Burstin (ARIA-hall-of-freaking-fame) taught me guitar and he was in the original line-up of Jo Jo Zep & The Falcons. It was completely ridiculous, we had a dressing room with our name on it and all the bands that had played there had written on the walls… talking Bon Iver, Karnivool and Cold War Kids. We didn’t have a meat platter, but Jo Jo Zep did and we snagged a cheeky twiggy stick. Tasted like success.

What inspires or has influenced your music the most?

The Vasco Era

Favourite piece of on-stage banter, or fan-related craziness?

By us? We really battle in the banter department… often our banter revolves around us struggling to banter. Drummer Will has only just worked out where to look when he’s playing.

What do you think a band has to do these days to succeed?

Suck a lot of doodle.

Do you have any releases to date? What? Where can I get it? Is it good?

Yeah! We just finished our first EP Fairweather produced by Tom Iansek from Big Scary and stuff. That’s a name drop if you were wondering. You can get it from us at gigs and it’s the best thing since Yakult.

Why should everyone come and see you?

Our friends do funny stuff like bribe bouncers to see us play when they’re too pissed (This happened).

When and where are you playing next?

Friday September 23 at The Espy front bar with Lowlakes, Knitting For Gran and Merrygorounds – Three of our favourite bands in Melbourne.
